THAMES Partnership Projects 2024-25

THAMES is excited to announce seed funding support for cultural partner organisations to deliver 13 innovative, high-quality arts education projects across schools in Tower Hamlets this coming academic year. These seed funded projects join a host of ongoing partnership projects which will provide rich, cultural opportunities to over 10,000 pupils, bringing additional investment of c. £250k, to complement instrumental, vocal and curriculum music tuition provided by THAMES in Tower Hamlets schools.

MUSIC PROJECTS

Conductive Music: music technology project in secondary schools where participants will create, code, and perform with digital instruments. In addition, Conductive Music will continue to deliver a multi-year music technology programme with Tower Hamlets special schools.

English Touring Opera: a tour of ETO’s bespoke new opera, The Vanishing Forest for KS2 children, to primary schools across the borough.

London Youth Choirs: a year-long secondary singing project to support local teenagers develop confidence and musical skills and discover the joy of singing, while providing valuable support to teachers in nurturing student engagement in school choirs.

Playground Proms: orchestral performances in school playgrounds across the borough, alongside in-school Dalcroze workshops, a lyric writing challenge, and a community performance.

Spitalfields Music: a Big Sing project for primary schools, including singing workshops in schools leading to a joint performance. The participating children will also learn a newly commissioned song by composer Anna Pool.

THAMES primary singing project: THAMES will also support a new primary singing project exploring British and Bangladeshi songs delivered by classical singer Jessica Summers, British-Bangladeshi singer Sohini Alam and her band Khiyo.

CROSS-ARTS PROJECTS

Akram Khan Company: having spent the last 2 years working across primary schools in Tower Hamlets in a teacher development programme, funding will now provide the opportunity secondary schools to engage in their work.

Auto Italia: will deliver a series of presentations to secondary schools showcasing creative employability and progression routes. Workshops will also be offered providing training in new media technologies.

Coney: support from THAMES will enable their Undercover Caretaker Agency programme to expand across 14 primary schools in the borough. The escape-room style box containing puzzles & creative challenges offers exploration of mental health and wellbeing.

Green Candle Dance: with a focus on SEND schools, pupils will engage in regular workshops embedding dance and movement into their school setting, normalising its role and involvement in learning, generating excitement, teamwork and creativity.

Half Moon Theatre: multi-layered programme including CPD workshops for teachers, hands-on project-management experiences for secondary school pupils and opportunities for children to experience live theatre for the first time.

THAT network: will curate a 10-day exhibition at the Art Pavilion in March 2025 showcasing hundreds of pieces of artwork from secondary school pupils and art teachers. Pupils will also have the opportunity to engage in numerous workshops alongside the exhibition led by a number of cultural partners.

Whitechapel Gallery: a programme exploring cultural diversity in contemporary art involving bespoke artist-led workshops and guided gallery visits for both primary and secondary school pupils.
