Services to Schools
We offer weekly vocal and instrumental lessons for all schools and educational settings, from early years through to sixth form and youth centres. Lessons are provided on a wide range of instruments. They can be taught one to one, in a small group or whole class and are delivered by highly qualified vocal and instrumental tutors. All lessons and music activities cover a variety of styles and genres to inspire and encourage all young people to progress on their musical journeys. Schools can sign up for lessons through the Music Service Level Agreement (SLA) which can be found at the bottom of the page.
We aim to be a fully accessible and inclusive service, and provide instruments to schools free of charge, including adaptive instruments, to ensure there are no barriers to learning.
We organise singing days and instrumental playing days, which schools are invited to take part in free of charge, with at least one large performance opportunity at the end of each year.
We support musical progress through our Awards Programme. This is where primary aged children who show musical talent and commitment in whole classes or large groups are invited to receive additional individual or small group ‘award’ lessons, funded by THAMES. Many of the award students from previous years are now playing in the Tower Hamlets Youth Orchestra.
We offer a range of free Continuing Professional Development (CPD) sessions and networking opportunities for teachers delivering arts and music in schools. At these sessions teachers can access advice on their School Music Development Plans, delivering the National Plan for Music Education and teaching the National Curriculum in Music and Art.
Schools that do not sign up for regular weekly teaching through the Music Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are still offered opportunities to take part in music projects and cross arts projects, including drama, dance, and visual arts.
