Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and networks

We work closely with schools and regularly provide CPD training sessions when needed.

Early Years Arts and Music Network

The Tower Hamlets Early Years Arts Network provides a forum for EYFS practitioners to come together

  • to share best practice
  • learn from one another and
  • meet other EYFS practitioners working in Tower Hamlets.

We also invite external arts organisations from time to time to lead training and CPD around a particular artform.

The network explores all artforms including music, dance, drama and visual art.

This network is for anyone who works in an Early Years setting. This includes schools, nurseries, children's centres, family centres, and childminders. It doesn't matter if you're experienced in using the arts or if you're new to it.

If you would like to join the network, please email us to be added to our mailing list.

Primary Art and Design Network

This network offers support for people delivering art in primary schools whether they are curriculum leads, class teachers or just interested.

Network meetings take place termly and are hosted by the Whitechapel Gallery. Sessions offer peer-to-peer development and are led by primary teachers, with each meet-up focusing on a particular topic, including practical CPD activities.

Secondary Art Network: THAT network

THAT (Tower Hamlets Artist Teachers) network is a forum for secondary artist-teachers and arts organisations from across the borough to connect; collaborate; create; share good practice; promote arts education and actively empower art teachers to revisit their art practice.

The group meet regularly throughout the year and work together to devise a range of arts opportunities for secondary schools in the borough. This includes an annual exhibition showcasing student art work (see THAT network for details of their latest exhibition) and a number of workshop opportunities for students which enable them to explore the arts with professional artists, introducing them to practises they may not have normally experienced.

In addition, they also organise CPD sessions for teachers, giving them the opportunity to be creative, explore ideas and experiment with a diverse range of art techniques and processes.

Drama forums and CPD programme

Half Moon Theatre, in partnership with THAMES, offers an annual programme of CPD opportunities. Sessions are free for Tower Hamlets staff and include a range of topics delivered in-person and online by theatre and drama professionals.

Half Moon also manage the Tower Hamlets Secondary Drama Forum and Primary Drama Forum.

Please email their Head of Creative Learning, androulla@halfmoon.org.uk for more information.
